Monuments and sights
The hand paper mill if located in the region of Olomouc, 10 km north of the city of Šumperk, on south-west end of spa village Velké Losiny, on left side of public road No. 11 from Šumperk through Červenohorské sedlo to Jeseník.
You can visit further notable historical monuments in the village and its close vicinity – Renaissance chateau of the Žerotíns with extensive English park (national cultural monument), parish church, small wooden churches in Žárová and Maršíkov and also the precinct of sulphur baths in Velké Losiny with extensive park and outdoor thermal swimming pool.

Renaissance chateau in Velké Losiny (National Cultural Monument)
an junior of Žerotín – important character of the history of this region – was the builder of this late Renaissance castle with arcade courtyard in the last quarter of the 16th century. He participated also in the establishment of famous sulphur thermal baths, was the builder of the parish church in Velké Losiny, established paper mill and many other seigniorial plants.
The Renaissance building was extended with Baroque wing at the end of the 17th century that closes arcade courtyard. The chateau also commemorates the period of ill-famed inquisitional processes during the years 1678 – 93, described in the book by Václav Kaplický “The Hammer of Witches“ and movie by Otakar Vávra of the same name. The chateau in Velké Losiny was the seat of one of the branches of Moravian family of Žerotín up to the beginning of 19th century (1802), when the Lichtesteins family became a new owner.
The chateau is characteristic with very valuable unique original late Renaissance interiors with partially preserved movables, rich art collection of wall tapestries, pictures and weapons. The precinct of the chateau, interesting from architectural point of view, together with adjacent park, is opened for public.

Parish renaissance church of St. John the Baptist in Velké Losiny
The church was built in the period 1600 – 1603 by Jan junior of Žerotín on the site of former wooden Lutheran church. The church building is completed with square tower from the last quarter of the 16th century. Renaissance space with internal mainly baroque decoration completed significantly on the turn of 19th and 20th centuries contains many valuable items. Most important among them is the Stations of the Cross by F.A. Sebastini of 1782. Under the church, there is original family crypt of the Žerotíns. In 1725, baroque chapel of St. Cross was built on northern side of the church by Jan Ludvík of Žerotín (1691–1761) with new family burial vault on its perimeter.
Small wooden church of St. Michael in Maršíkov
Timbered longitudinal sacral construction of originally Lutheran church of 1609, terminated with polygonal closure. Octagonal tower is built on roof ridge. The monument represents an important document of late Renaissance rustic architecture. Valuable interior and movables, internal rococo decorations from the period 1776–7. A cemetery surrounded by stone wall was located around the church up to 1900.
Small wooden church of St. Martin in Žárová
Small wooden church from the period 1610 – 1611, further important monument of rustic Renaissance architecture. Longitudinal construction with polygonal closure, built-in square tower, anteroom and rectangular sacristy. When compared with the church in Maršíkov, this church is a little bit smaller and less decorative, but only from outside. Its interior remained conserved almost in original form. The church is located at beautiful foot of mountains, is surrounded with small cemetery and enclosed by stone wall.
Baroque granary – silo of former manor of the Žerotíns in Velké Losiny
The part of former manor of the Žerotíns in Velké Losiny. The granary was built by demesne owner Jan Ludvík of Žerotín in 1729. Monumental baroque building with dimensions 48×18 m. Sandstone cartouche with the shield of counts of Žerotín – Lilgenau is located above the stone entrance portal. The object underwent successful reconstruction of roof and façade and it still utilized for economic purposes by its current owner. It is not opened for public.
The precinct of sulphur baths in Velké Losiny with park and thermal swimming pool
Rich history of sulphur thermal baths in Velké Losiny dates back to 16th century and it classifies them among the oldest Moravian spas with the longest tradition. The first written mention on “warm baths in Losiny“ comes from 1562. Beneficial effects of local springs were highly appreciated by doctor Tomáš Jordán of Klauseburk already in 1580, in his work “On healing waters, or on Moravian warm baths“.
Today, the precinct is used mostly for therapeutical purposes. For other visitors it can be attractive thanks to its extensive natural English park, outdoor thermal swimming pool and cultural life of a health resort.

Pumped storage hydroelectric plant of ČEZ Dlouhé stráně
Pumped storage hydroelectric plant Dlouhé Stráně is located in Jeseníky on the river Divoká Desná, at the Loučná nad Desnou (10 km from Velké Losiny). It was built during the years 1978 – 1996 with total output of 650 MW. The power is produced by means of pumping the water from lower reservoir into the upper one in off-peak time and vice versa – discharging of water from upper reservoir and power generation in turbines. Upper reservoir is located at the height of 1350 m above sea level. Two turbines – reversing set with the output of 2×325 MW – are located in underground cave. Further communication, technological and ventilation tunnels and galleries are located underground in total length of 8.5 km.

Railway line Šumperk – Petrov nad Desnou – Kouty nad Desnou
Branch of the railway line Zábřeh na Moravě – Šumperk – Sobotín (in operation since 1871), built in the period 1903 – 1904 in the section Petrov nad Desnou – Kouty nad Desnou. As a result of flood in 1997, the railway was damaged a lot and thanks to considerable effort of adjacent municipalities it was renewed put again into operation in 1998. Now, it is in the possession of the Association of municipalities in Desná valley. The railway runs through the valley of river Desná from Šumperk to Petrov nad Desnou, continues to Velké Losiny and further to piedmont resort Kouty nad Desnou, that is a point of departure for many tourist routes in the region of Hrubý Jeseník.
